We are excited to host two of the authors from this article – Kathryn (Kat) G. Gardner-Vandy (Oklahoma State University, USA) and Anne U. Gold (Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), University of Colorado in Boulder, USA) who will present a talk featuring their insights on nonlinear career pathways.

Speaker Bios 

KatKathryn (Kat) G. Gardner-Vandy (Oklahoma State University)

Kathryn (Kat) G. Gardner-Vandy, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Aviation and Space at Oklahoma State University. A citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, she is the Principal Investigator of the NASA Science Activation project Native Earth | Native Sky. She is a geologist, planetary scientist, and private pilot. Before joining OSU, she worked as a STEM Lab Instructor at Tulsa Community College and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. Kat’s research interests include Indigenous STEM education, meteoritics and cosmochemistry, and issues in collegiate aviation. She was named a Native American 40 Under 40 by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development in 2022. 

 

AnneAnne U. Gold (CIRES, University of Colorado (Boulder), United States of America 

Anne U. Gold, PhD, is a Fellow and a Senior Associate Scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado in Boulder, an Affiliate Faculty member of CU’s School of Education and the Director of the CIRES Center for Education, Engagement and Evaluation. She focuses on science education for educators, students, communities and the public around climate, water, polar regions and geosciences in general. Anne is interested in understanding and studying effective ways of teaching and learning and is dedicated to grounding her education work in solid research and evaluation. She is passionate about building local partnerships with diverse communities. Anne has led dozens of NSF, NOAA and NASA-funded education projects and leads a vibrant group of outreach and education professionals in developing engaging and meaningful educational opportunities for all learners. She is a climate scientist by training with a doctoral degree from the University of Regensburg in Germany.
